Also, the times set by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for processing of applications for citizenship, PR card renewal or application for temporary residency keeps changing from time to time depending on the workload of the department and their processing speed.

Below, you’ll find detailed information about the current processing time for each service with IRCC as of December 11, 2024 to help you organize your migration to Canada better.

These are average processing times and yours may vary depending on the fact that these figures are based on 80% of applications processed.

That is why such aspects as the degree of documentation, the type and specifics of the case, or other extra identification procedures can define the general time needed for preparing an application.

Here’s a detailed breakdown for each category:

Citizenship Processing Times (Monthly Updates)

Citizenship Grant: Currently it takes 7 months to process which remains the same as before.

Citizenship Certificate: Brought down to 3 months, 1 month down when compared to previous monthly update.

Renunciation of Citizenship: Remains the same at 16 months from last month’s update.

Search of Citizenship Records: At 11 months, there is no variation from the previous update.

Note: IRCC is currently sending acknowledgement of receipt (AOR) letters for applications submitted during the week of November 11, 2024.

Permanent Resident (PR) Card Updates (Weekly)

New PR Card: 23 days, that is one less day than can be said for the previous week update.

PR Card Renewal: 40 days and one week, one week less than last week.

Family Sponsorship Processing Times (Monthly Updates)

Spouse/Common-Law Partner (Outside Canada, except Quebec): Unchanged from previous monthly update at 10 months.

Spouse/Common-Law Partner (Outside Canada, for Quebec): 36 months; No change from previous study.

Spouse/Common-Law Partner (Inside Canada, except Quebec): The same trend was observed at 12 months as was seen at the last month’s update.

Spouse/Common-Law Partner (Inside Canada, for Quebec): Unchanged at 27 months as it was when reported in November update.

Parents/Grandparents (except Quebec): Remain the same as in last monthly update, but still 24 months.

Parents/Grandparents (for Quebec): Stays at 48 months as was in November.

Economic Immigration (Monthly and Weekly Updates)

Canadian Experience Class (CEC): Steady for 5 months.

Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP): Also 5 months, no change.

Provincial Nominee Program (Express Entry): Still 6 months.

Provincial Nominee Program (without Express Entry): Up to 13 months.

Quebec Skilled Workers (QSW): Continues to be at 11 months.

Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP): Steady at 8 months.

Federal Self-employed persons: No change, at 48 months.

Quebec Business Class: Rises to 71 months as compared to 58 months as highlighted in the update in November.

Start-up Visa: Steady at 40 months.

Temporary Residency Processing Times (Weekly Updates)

Visitor Visa (From Outside Canada):

India: 111 days, marked down by 3 days, below from last weeks’ update.

United States: 26 days, this means one day less than the previous weekly update.

Nigeria: 172 days and it was reduced by 1 day compared to last week.

Pakistan: 33 days, up by 1 day in the previous week.

Philippines: 21 days, 3 days more on weekly comparison.

Visitor Visa (Inside Canada):

Online: Increases to 40 days.

Visitor Extension: Compared to last month’s update, the number is up by 26 days, 132 days in total.

Super Visa:

India: 136, which is 7 days more than indicated in the survey conducted last week.

United States: 140, it is 3 more days more than last week.

Nigeria: 63 days (no change).

Pakistan: 59 more than in the week before, which was 95 days and added 21 days to it.

Philippines: 105, which is 19 days more than last week.

Study Permit (From Outside Canada):

India: 4 weeks, there has been an addition of one week to the(completion time as compared to last week .

United States: 10 weeks, reduced by 4 weeks on the weekly basis.

Nigeria: 8 weeks, down by one from last week’s schedule.

Pakistan: Up to 11 weeks a drop of two weeks compared to the update in November.

Philippines: Continues to be 4 weeks.

Study permit from inside Canada: 10 weeks, down by four weeks since November.

Study permit extension: 160 days, which is an addition of 2 days on weekly bases.

Work Permit (Outside Canada):

India: It currently stands at 18 weeks, a reduction of 5 weeks compared to last month’s update.

United States: 16 weeks, adding two more weeks compared to the previous week.

Nigeria: 23 weeks, down by one week from the previous week.

Pakistan: 12 Weeks cut by 3 Weeks since the last Weekly Update.

Philippines: Adjusted to 4 weeks down from the previous month’s update as the frequency of updates are adjusted to be less frequent.

Work Permit From Inside Canada including extension: Up to 171, 2 days more than last month’s update.

Other Programs:

Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program (SAWP) — 8 days.

International Experience Canada: 6 weeks.

Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA): 5 minutes – Immediate
