PGP 2022 immigration lottery has been completed

The 2022 Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) lottery is now closed.

Canada’s PGP aims to assist Canadian sponsors in reuniting with their loved ones, allowing these parents and grandparents to obtain Canadian permanent resident status and enjoy benefits such as access to universal healthcare and a path to citizenship in this country.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has confirmed on its website that it has completed the distribution of 23,100 invitations to apply to sponsors in the 2022 PGP pool after conducting its lottery between October 12 and October 20.

Similar to the 2021 PGP, IRCC has decided not to open a new round of sponsorship submissions this year. Instead, it was decided to issue ITAs for the 2022 PGP to more interested Canadian sponsors who had submitted an expression of interest through IRCC’s website in the Fall of 2020.

Before submitting an application, any interested sponsor who received an invitation during the most recent PGP season should confirm their programme eligibility once more. PGP sponsorship applicants have until December 24, 2022, from the date an ITA is received, to submit a completed application.

PGP lottery invitations continue to be among the most coveted ITAs in the Canadian immigration system. The number of application spots available continues to outnumber far the number of Canadians interested in sponsoring their parents and grandparents to come to Canada. Indeed, in terms of the size of the sponsor pool from which IRCC distributed ITAs this year, IRCC revealed that it received over 200,000 requests for sponsorship forms in October/November 2020.

However, in the 2022 PGP cycle, Canada intends to continue cutting into the pool of the 155,000 remaining interested sponsors by receiving and processing 15,000 completed PGP applications from the 23,100 ITAs distributed.
