This week, candidates have received invitations to apply through the Provincial Nomination Programs (PNPs) of Ontario and Manitoba.
Provincial nomination can serve as the initial step toward obtaining permanent residence from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, despite the fact that it is not the same as one in and of itself (IRCC).
With the exception of Quebec and Nunavut, the majority of Canadian provinces and territories run their own provincial nomination programs. Interested candidates may receive invitations from these programs to submit an application for a provincial nomination. The immigration policies of Quebec are different from those of Canada and are handled by the province.
Each year, 105,000 PR admissions are handled by the PNP. The annual number of PNP admissions started in 1998 and has been gradually rising ever since. The federal and provincial governments view it as a useful tool for fostering economic growth outside of urban areas.
On December 21, Ontario sent 725 letters of interest to applicants for the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program’s Master’s Graduate stream (OINP).
To be eligible for this stream, candidates must meet a baseline of eligibility criteria such as the following:
Must have a master’s degree from an eligible university in Ontario.
Language requirement: Canadian Language Benchmark(CLB) level 7 or higher (English or French).
Must have legally lived in Ontario for at least one year in the past two years.

On December 29, Manitoba sent invitations to 16 applicants as a result of exceptional immigration measures that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) had put in place in response to the situation in Ukraine.
