New Canada Immigration Fee Increases Effective From December 1, 2025

The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) officially introduced the new round of immigration fee increases that will become effective on December 1, 2025.

These modifications cover various categories of immigration, such as applications to inadmissibility, status restoration and International Experience Canada (IEC).

The changes will have a new bearing on the overall price of application to temporary inhabitants such as international students and work permit owners who desire to reinstitute their status.

The table below has been broken down to enable applicants to know the new amounts, the reason behind the increase or decrease in fees, and the implication of this on applications that have already been submitted.

Updated IRCC Fees (Effective December 1, 2025)

IRCC has raised the number of inadmissibility-related fees, which affect people who require authorization or need to reinstate their status because of the immigration problems they had previously.

New Structure of Inadmissibility Fee.

Fee nameNew feeOld Fee
Authorization to return to Canada$492.50$479.75
Temporary resident permit$246.25$239.75
Inadmissible on grounds of criminality$246.25$239.75
Inadmissible on grounds of serious criminality$1,231.00$1,199.00
Restore your status as a visitor Visa fee not needed$246.25$239.75
Restore your status as a worker$246.25$239.75
Restore your status as a worker Restore your status ($246.25) and get a new work permit ($155)$401.25$394.75
Restore your status as a student$246.25$239.75
Restore your status as a student Restore your status ($246.25) and get a new study permit ($150)$396.25$389.75

These changes are a reflection on the periodic updates of costs and recovery by IRCC where the processing and enforcement operations will be adequately financed as the number of applications increases.

Such changes illustrate the regular cost-recovery changes by IRCC, so that processing and enforcement processes are financed with more applications.

Increase in International Experience Canada (IEC) Fee.

The IEC fee, which applies to Working Holiday, Young Professionals and International Co-ops applicants was also changed.

Fee nameNew feeOld Fee
International Experience Canada fee$184.75$179.75

This slight growth will cover all IEC applicants starting December 1, 2025.

Earlier Fee Changes in 2025

These newly made announcements of fee increases come after two previous fee changes that were announced earlier this year.

Removal Expense Fees Revised on April 1, 2025.

The price of being removed out of Canada will be dependent on the removal date and the mode of removal.

If removed before April 1, 2025

  • To the U.S.A. or St. Pierre and Miquelon: $899
  • To any other country: $1,799

If removed on or after April 1, 2025

  • Non-medical: Escorted removal by air: $12,880.
  • Removal with no escort, escort other than air, or removal by air with medical escort: $3,840.

There is a complete exemption on minors (under 18 at the time of the removal order).

Citizenship Right Fee Increase on March 31, 2025

The other significant reform in 2025 was that the right of citizenship fee increased:

Fee nameNew feeOld Fee
Right of citizenship$119.75$100.00

It is an increase that is applicable to all applicants of adult citizenship.

IRCC has made it clear that it will not reject the applications mailed before the change of the fee but received later.

Rather, the difference will be paid by the applicants.

What Happens if You Paid the Old Fee?

Applicants who submitted their application with the previous fee may need to pay the difference if:

  • You submitted the old fee while applying online on or after December 1, 2025.
  • You mailed the complete application before the fee change date, and IRCC received it after the new fees took effect.

How to Pay the Fee Difference?

  • Calculate the total difference owed per applicant and family member
  • Go to IRCC’s “Make an additional payment” portal
  • Enter the total difference under “Quantity.”
  • Pay and obtain your receipt
  • Submit the receipt following IRCC instructions

This new fee revision is a subset of a larger cost-recovery system.

As the volumes of immigration are still high, IRCC makes changes to fees on a regular basis to keep abreast with the requirements of administrative, enforcement, and processing.

The new applications directed to the organization must pay the new charges that were applicable starting on December 1, but those that had paid previously may be advised on the procedure to make the rest of the payments.

These changes are critical to the international students, IEC participants and workers intending to renew or renew their status as the 2026 program updates and immigration level targets are at hand.
