A super visa allows your parent and grandparent to spend up to 5 years at a time. It’s a visa that allows for several entries for up to ten years. The length of your stay will be confirmed by a border services officer when you enter Canada.

The legal parents and grandparents of a PR Cardholder or a Canadian Citizen can apply for a super visa as of December 11, 2011. This strand of visas was created to combat the lengthy process of the sponsorship processing times for permanent residency. With this strand, we can help families reunite with each other as soon as possible. The super visa for parents & grandparents has a few more perks as compared to the regular visitor visa. The super visa is valid for a total of 10 years and has a minimum stay limit in Canada of 2 years per trip. With this, you do not need to revalidate your status every 6 months and can re-enter as many times as necessary.

As required by the Canadian government, individuals attempting to sponsor someone must be PR card holders or Canadian citizens. You must also provide a commitment of financial support written on paper and a letter of invitation that outlines your arrangements and how you will accommodate the person being sponsored.

The person must also prove that they meet the minimum income requirement as detailed by the Canadian government and that they will be able to provide for the sponsored person(s) as well as their family currently residing with them. The amount of income required will fluctuate based on the size of the family.

Please refer to the Low-income cut-off (LICO) for more details on the required income.
