Invitations issued in a recent draw under Canada’s Canadian Experience Class program included 3,000 invitations to permanent residency applications from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada on August 5, 2026.
It is the second Express Entry draw of the month and the 44th draw of 2026, coming just a day after the August 4, 2026, PNP draw and marking the beginning of the first draw cluster of the month.
The issuance of 3,000 invitations represents a 50% increase over the 2,000 invitations issued in each of the last two draws held in the previous month.

August 5 CEC Draw Details
Cutoff score of 516 perfectly matches the draw of July 21, carried out by CEC, and belongs to the limited range of scores between 514 and 518 that have characterized all draws of CEC since April 2026.
Even though the number of invitations has risen by 50%, from 2,000 to 3,000, the cutoff remained unchanged, which suggests that there has been no decrease in scores of the people added to the pool of the candidates, which is in line with our predictions made in August 2026.
The tie-breaking date of July 3, 2026, means that those candidates who had a score of 516 needed to submit their Express Entry profiles by that date and time to be invited.
How This Draw Compares to Previous CEC Rounds

It is interesting to note that the return of 3,000 invitations following two rounds of 2,000 invitations is similar to the case of May 27, where IRCC increased the number of CEC invitations from 2,000 to 3,000.
However, whether this marks a change or a temporary fluctuation can be determined only once the next draw takes place, expected to happen in August (the third or fourth week).
What a CRS Cutoff of 516 Means for Candidates
A CRS score of 516, but without a provincial nomination, generally means that there is a need to achieve the right combination of age, education, language, and work experience in Canada.
According to the CRS point grid, a 30-year-old applicant with a master’s degree, CLB 10 English in all 4 categories, and three years of Canadian skilled work experience will score around 506 to 516 points depending on additional factors like another language or arranged employment.
Applicants who have scored 480-510 points should analyze whether they can apply through category draws which are based on French proficiency, healthcare, trades, or other specific occupations because such draws offer cutoff scores much lower than that of the CEC program.
French-speaking category draws have offered CRS cutoff scores from 393 to 420 for eight draws in 2026, meaning that a TEF or TCF test result of NCLC 7 or above provides an easy 100-point margin below the CEC cutoff score.
Provincial nominations are the strongest CRS multiplier as it brings an additional 600 points and guarantees an invitation to the next PNP draw.
Updated 2026 Invitation Totals
The draw on August 5 raises the total number of invites issued through Express Entry in 2026 to 108,123 through 44 draws.
Invites issued specifically to CEC account for 48,250 in 13 draws, accounting for 44.6% of all the invites issued in 2026 and making CEC the leading Express Entry program of 2026.
The 2026 total of 108,123 is getting close to the 113,988 invites issued in 2025, and still with nearly five months of draws left.
The two programs of CEC and French Language make up more than 82% of all invites issued in 2026, thus driving the Express Entry process.
August Draw Cluster Update
This draw scheduled for August 5 by the CEC is the second draw in the first draw cluster of the month, preceded by the PNP draw held on August 4 which offered 507 invitations at CRS 768.
Assuming that IRCC maintains the same draw pattern witnessed in July, a French language proficiency draw is likely to be made in the next day or two, thus completing the core three draw cluster.
French draws recently have issued between 4,000 and 5,000 invitations with CRS cut-off values between 393 and 420, although a slight drop in the number of invitations issued is anticipated considering that IRCC has made a total of 108,123 invitations in the first seven months of the year.
Fourth draws aimed at specific smaller categories like trades, health care or senior managers are possible in this draw window although not consistently observed.
Draw dates, categories and volumes for any given draw window are not guaranteed by IRCC and can change without prior notice.
What Invited Candidates Should Do Now
Those who were invited to apply have exactly 60 calendar days to submit their permanent residence application through the Express Entry portal.
The candidates should get their police certificates, medical exams, education credential assessment, and employment references done immediately because all these documents come with their own processing time.
Failure to file an application during those 60 days results in the expiry of the invitation, and the candidate’s profile goes back to the Express Entry pool with his or her initial CRS score.
At present, the average processing time for CEC permanent residence applications stands at around six to seven months, which means those candidates who will apply in August will hear back in early to mid-2027.
The 2,000 to 3,000 increase in invitations from the last CEC draw is an indication that IRCC is keeping up the cluster system but exercising some flexibility with regard to the number of invitations issued, in light of this August round.
It is anticipated that a French language draw will be announced in the coming one or two days, thus completing the August cluster.
